Scientific  Advisory  Board

Matej Orešič, PhD, Prof.

Founder, Chief Scientific Advisor

Matej is the main founder of Zora, company's Chief Scientific Advisor and a Research Professor at VTT. Since 2003 he has been leading the research group "Quantitative Biology and Bioinformatics" at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. Matej's research interests extend from biomedical applications of metabolomics to integrative bioinformatics method development. His recent investigations include longitudinal metabolic profiles of children who progressed to Type 1 Diabetes (DIPP study), studies of statin induced myopathy, as well as investigations of lipidomic profiles associated with lipotoxicity induced insulin resistance. Prior to joining VTT, Matej was the principal scientist, computational biology and modelling at Beyond Genomics (currently known as BG Medicine), Waltham, Massachusetts and bioinformatician at LION Bioscience Research in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Matej Orešič holds a PhD in biophysics from Cornell University.

Antonio Vidal-Puig, MD, PhD, FRCP

Professor in Molecular Nutrition and Metabolism, Honorary Consultant in Metabolic Medicine

Dr Vidal-Puig is currently the Professor of Molecular Nutrition and Metabolism at Cambridge University and Honorary Consultant in Metabolic Medicine at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. He is Deputy Director of the MRC Centre for Obesity and Related Diseases and Director of the Cambridge Phenomics Centre, a state-of-the-art centre that applies multidisciplinary approaches to murine phenotyping. His programme of research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of lipid-induced insulin resistance and on developing strategies to prevent the deleterious effects of lipids, specifically by modulating fatty acid oxidation and thermogenic mechanisms.
